京極庵

KYOUGOKUAN

It was built in 1886 (Meiji 19) by the Maetani family, a merchant house with the Kyogoku family that has been around since the Edo period.
You can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and experience the culture of the tea ceremony and the history of Marugame.
 
Inside the mansion, there is a courtyard called "Yamazato no Niwa".
About 12 kinds of ferns are planted, and it is a quiet space where you can hear only the chirping of birds.
 
You can enjoy matcha and Japanese sweets in the tea room at the back.
Japanese sweets are ordered from the nearby long-established confectionery store "Hogetsudo".
Depending on the season, you can enjoy sweets with winter flowers such as camellia and sasanqua.

After losing my husband and raising a child, I went to the painting business.
There are many bird-and-flower paintings, and it is a very delicate and gentle touch.
 
In addition, the shogi board related to the Kyogoku family and the works of Kaii Higashiyama are also exhibited.
 

 

江戸時代から続く京極家付きの商家だった前谷家が1886(明治19)年に建てたもので
街の騒がしさから離れ茶の湯の文化や丸亀の歴史に触れることができます。
 
屋敷の中には「山里の庭」と呼ばれる中庭があり、
シダが12種類ほど植えられており、鳥のさえずりだけが聞こえる静かな空間です。
 
奥の茶室では抹茶と和菓子をいただくことができます。
和菓子は近くの老舗菓子店「寳月堂」から取り寄せており、
季節によりツバキやサザンカなど冬の花々をモチーフにした菓子が味わえます。
 
美術品も数多く展示しており、
丸亀市出身の日本画家山下紅畝(1884~1977年)は
東京女子高等師範学校(現お茶の水女子大)卒の才女で、
夫を亡くし子どもを育て上げた後に画業にいそしみました。
花鳥画が多く、実に繊細で優しいタッチです。
 
その他、京極家ゆかりの将棋盤や東山魁夷の作品も展示しております。
